Dr. Glen Zielinski, DC, DACNB, FACFN, CBIS

Glen Zielinski is a Chiropractic Physician and Board Certified Functional Neurologist. He graduated Suma Cum Laude from Parker College of Chiropractic in September 2000. He was the Valedictorian of his class, and received numerous awards including the largest student scholarship in the chiropractic profession. He completed his neurology training with the Carrick Institute for Graduate Studies, and became board certified as a Chiropractic Neurologist in 2003. He is an Assistant Professor of Neurology with the Carrick Institute. He is a Certified Brain Injury Specialist. He has lectured for thousands of hours on Functional Neurology to chiropractic, medical, osteopathic, and naturopathic physicians throughout North America and Europe. He has qualified hundreds of doctors throughout the world to sit for board examination in Functional Neurology. He continues to lecture throughout the country on functional medicine management of neurological, neuropsychiatric, and autoimmune disorders.

He founded Northwest Functional Neurology in 2006. Patients travel from throughout the continent to have Dr. Zielinski attend to their care. His practice focuses on severe traumatic brain injuries, post-concussion syndrome, movement disorders, disorders of gait and balance, and disorders of childhood neurological development.

He spearheaded a project that resulted in Functional Neurology being coded into the chiropractic scope of practice in Oregon. He was awarded a fellowship from the American College of Functional Neurology in 2010. He was honored as Neurologist of the Year for 2014 by the International Association of Functional Neurology and Rehabilitation, the highest award in the Functional Neurology profession.

He has helped celebrity entertainers and musicians, professional athletes, Olympic Gold Medalists, and World Champions recover from neurological injuries and maximize their performance.

He splits his (alleged) spare time between activities as a musician, martial artist, winemaker, and fending off sneak attacks from his children.


Dr. Jeffrey McNally, DC, DACNB

Dr. Jeff graduated Magna Cum Laude with his Doctorate in Chiropractic from Life University in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was the recipient of the prestigious Contemporary Scientific Paradigms Award. He received his neurology training with the Carrick Institute. After completing his internship at the Carrick Brain Center in Atlanta, he pursued a residency in neurology at Cerebrum Health Centers. He has also received advanced certification in Applied Kinesiology. He moved to Portland in 2016 to work with Dr. Zielinski and join the Northwest Functional Neurology team. His work on treating frozen shoulder an balance disorder with Functional Neurological methodologies was published in the prominent journal Frontiers in Neuroscience.

He has a passion for the treatment of traumatic brain injury, post-concussion syndrome, dizziness and balance disorders, and post-traumatic headaches. He also focuses on using Functional Neurology for the optimization of athletic performance.

He hails from the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area, and completed his Bachelors of Natural Science degree at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He is a former athlete, and competed in baseball, football, and karate. He still enjoys working out, hiking, snowboarding, and yelling at his TV while watching sports.


Alaina Randerson, MSc, CBIS

Alaina Randerson received her Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Exercise Science with a Concentration in Sports Medicine from Colorado State University. Focusing on Neuromuscular Movements, Successful Aging, and Exercise Physiology; she discovered her passion for aiding individuals in independent living and increasing functional capacity. Alaina spent over two years rehabilitating patients with Autism, Multiple Sclerosis, and developmental disabilities in Fort Collins, Colorado. She later spent a year in Craig Hospital’s physical therapy and occupational therapy departments working with individuals with Spinal Cord Injuries and Traumatic Brain Injuries in Denver, Colorado.

She became a certified Brain Injury Specialist in 2016. She earned her Master’s degree in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine from the University of Western States in 2018.

In her time off, she trains for triathlons, snowboards, hikes, and loves to travel.


Dr. Russ Margach, DC

Dr. Russ graduated Cum Laude with his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from the University of Western States. He has practiced in Portland, Oregon for approximately 25 years. His opportunity to pursue post-doctoral Chiropractic Functional Neurology training from Dr. Zielinski through the Carrick Institute came in 2010. Following this, Dr. Russ pursued additional sub-specialty neurology training in Childhood Developmental Disorders and Traumatic Brain Injury Diagnosis and Rehabilitation. He is currently a Board Eligible Functional Neurologist with the American Chiropractic Neurology Board, and is eligible for Fellowship status with the American College of Functional Neurology, the American Board of Brain Injury Rehabilitation, and the American Board of Childhood Developmental Disorders.

He has served as a review consultant with the Australasian Academy of Functional Neurology. He is the principal author of the state of Oregon’s Board of Chiropractic Examiner’s white paper establishing functional neurology standards in Oregon. He was the requested author of “Chiropractic Functional Neurology: An Introduction” by the journal Integrative Medicine: A Clinician’s Journal for an issue featuring functional neurology case studies. He is also a research peer-reviewer for the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association, and for the Journal of Clinical Biomechanics. He completed a 6-month internship at Northwest Functional Neurology in 2015, and was invited to join as a Staff Clinician in 2016.


Dr. Rachel Frontain, DC

Dr. Rachel graduated Cum Laude with a Doctorate degree in chiropractic and a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology from the University of Western States in Portland, OR in December 2017. During her time in school, she took extra-curricular courses in Functional Neurology, as well as becoming certified in Active Release Technique and Webster Technique. As vice president of her school’s Student American Chiropractic Association chapter, she regularly worked alongside other chiropractors and students, as well as lobbied in Washington, D.C. twice, to increase patient access to chiropractic care in the United States. Upon completing her 3-month clinical internship at Northwest Functional Neurology, she made the relocation to Portland permanent and joined the team as a clinical associate in early 2018.

She grew up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada where she earned a B.A. from the The University of Saskatchewan in 2015. Prior to chiropractic school, she traveled to Bali where she earned her 200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher certification. She then relocated to Portland, OR to attend chiropractic school in 2016. It was a snowboarding incident that introduced her to Functional Neurology and she knew she wanted to specialize in the field before she started chiropractic training. She also has a passion for treating children under a Functional Neurology model. In her free time, you might catch her snowboarding, swinging kettlebells, practicing yoga, singing in her car and studying neurology, all while drinking coffee around Portland.


Kaitlyn Reid

Kaitlyn completed her undergraduate degree at Western Oregon University in Psychology and Sports Leadership. She then continued on to coach Track and Field and Cross Country at the collegiate level where she coached four athletes to the National D2 Championships. From there she was recruited to work at the Nike World Headquarters as a running expert and social media specialist. After wanting to branch out of the corporate world, she moved into personal training with an ACE certification. She then found an opportunity to move into her current position as a Rehab Specialist at Northwest Functional Neurology after shadowing at the Clinic. She loves building relationships with patients and seeing their progress and healing along the way. Outside of work she enjoys running, exploring the outdoors, surfing, and traveling.


Shanna Huizar

Shanna Huizar has been our office Manager for a little over a year now, she makes sure things flow smoothly. When you call our clinic she will be the first person you talk to, Shanna has wonderful way of making our patient feel comfortable. Outside of the clinic Shanna enjoys hiking and spending time with her family.


Hannah Turner

Hannah Turner graduated Suma Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from Washington State University in Vancouver. She was the recipient of the “Outstanding Neuroscience Student of the Year” academic award for 2017 – 2018. While studying neuroscience and psychology, Hannah spent time working as a medical scribe in the emergency department and as a physical therapy aide. In her free time, she likes to take road trips, hike and spend time with family.


Kathy Nelson

Kathy has been in the Alternative Healthcare business for 30 years. She knows how to make sure all things on the financial end run without a hitch. Although she is often unseen she is in the back office making sure everyone has dotted their “I’s” and crossed their “T’s”. Kathy is an OSU Master Gardener and when not working she is often tending to her raised beds and playing with her grandchildren.
